Flatbed and Step Deck Dispatch
Open-deck freight pays some of the best rates in trucking, and the details matter most here. We book flatbed, step deck and flatbed maxi loads and confirm securement, tarps and dimensions before you roll.
| Setup | Length | Avg. weekly gross | Avg. rate per mile |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flatbed | 48 or 53 ft | $12,000–$14,000 | $3.00–$4.00 |
| Step Deck | 48 or 53 ft | $12,000–$14,000 | $3.00–$3.50 |
Weekly gross and rate per mile are typical ranges, not guarantees. Your numbers depend on the market, the season, your lanes and how much you run.
What We Handle for Flatbeds and Step Decks
On top of everything in our standard dispatch service, here's what matters most for your equipment.
Securement and Tarps Up Front
We confirm whether a load needs straps, chains, edge protection or tarps, and whether tarp pay is included.
Legal Dimensions Checked
We make sure the load fits your deck height and stays within legal width, height and weight.
Oversize Permits
When a load is over legal dimensions, we help arrange OD permits for every state on the route.
Broker Credit Checks
We check how a broker pays before booking and avoid poorly rated ones.
All of It on the Invoice
We bill tarp pay, detention and layover along with the linehaul so you're paid for everything.
Flatbed and Step Deck Dispatch Pricing
Pay a percentage of your weekly gross or a flat $250 a week, whichever works better for you.

Good to Know
A flatbed deck sits about 5 ft off the ground, so freight up to about 8 ft 6 in tall stays under the usual 13 ft 6 in height limit.
A step deck's lower deck sits about 3.5 ft high and takes freight up to about 10 ft tall. That difference decides which loads you can take without a permit.

Flatbed and Step Deck Dispatch Questions
What's the difference between a flatbed and a step deck?
A flatbed has one level deck about 5 ft high. A step deck has a raised front section and a lower main deck around 3.5 ft high, so it can carry taller freight without an oversize permit.
How much does a flatbed make per week?
Flatbeds and step decks we dispatch typically gross $12,000–$14,000 a week. Flatbeds average $3.00–$4.00 a mile and step decks $3.00–$3.50.
What does flatbed dispatch cost?
5% of weekly gross for one truck, 4% for two or more, or a flat $250 per week. The same rates apply to step decks and flatbed maxis.
